We thank Stefano Loccaso for having informed us that this is a study in reverse for a print by Giovanni Battista Coriolano (1590-1649) made for Carlo I Gonzaga Nevers (1580-1637) and dating from soon after Carlo’s accession to the duchy of Mantua in 1627 (for the engraving, see G. Gaeta Bertelà, Incisori bolognesi ed emiliani del sec. XVII, Bologna, 1973, n. 467, ill.).
