The 'All Wood' chair was created in collaboration with the Vauconsant of Saint Nicolas de Port studios, situated next to the city of Nancy. As numerous other studios, Ateliers Prouvé had to adapt to the circumstances of the war and lack of materials. They temporarily abandoned the use of metal in the fabrication of furniture and buildings and instead focused primarily on woodworking. There are numerous variations of the 'All Wood' chair, in which the form and position of the legs, back and seat are adjusted.
These four chairs are a variant of the original ‘All Wood’ chair and are from a set of 15 that were commissioned for the Buffet de la Gare restaurant in Longuyon, France, between Reims and Frankfurt. The slats that form the seat and back replace the plywood and molded elements found in the former model. This change was mostly due to difficulties in finding the appropriate supplies.
A chair of this model is in the permanent collection of the Musée Lorrain, Nancy, France.
