RARE SERCIAL 'TORRE BELLA'
The Countess of Torre Bella (1835 – 1925) married Russel Manners Gordon in 1857 (1829 – 1906), making him the first and only Count of Torre Bella. Gordon was required to adopt Portuguese nationality as part of the marriage agreement. In doing so, he lost his British Nationality and partnership in the firm Cossart, Gordon & Co.

The Casa Torre Bella vineyards located near Camara de Lobos have produced a large number of great wines. Most were sold at the time to shippers therefore it’s rare to find bottles with the Torre Bella label.

This Sercial 1865 came directly from an heir of the Torre Bella family. A small number of bottles were auctioned in London last year. Christie’s is now proud to offer you the chance to acquire the last bottles of Sercial 1865 from the original family reserves.

This is a unique opportunity to acquire a rare piece of history.

"Intense nose, rich expressive aromas of fudge, caramel and beeswax. Lovely and pure.
Fine Cognac style attack of taste. Dry with touch of fine fruit in spirity intense taste. On the mid palate some roasted hazelnuts and old woody aromas. Tight long finish. Relatively low 20-25 gr/l residual sugar (for a Sercial). A very rare wine." Last tasted January 2013, EV.
