AN ASSEMBLED "TOBACCO LEAF" PART SERVICE
CIRCA 1815
Most from the "Stirling Tobacco Leaf" service, colorfully enameled in the classic pattern, comprising:
A pair of ice pails, covers and liners, 11 in. (27.9 cm.) high
A pair of footed oval compotes, 12 ½ in. (32 cm.) wide
A pair of shaped rectangular dishes, 7 ¾ in. (19.5 cm.) wide
A pair of circular scalloped dishes gilt with a "Y" monogram, 10 ½ in. (26.5 cm.) diameter
A smaller pair of circular scalloped dishes, gilt with a "Y" monogram, 7 ½ in. (19 cm.) diameter
A set of eight sweetmeat dishes and covers, 5 ½ in. (13.5 cm.) wide
An octagonal cover, 6 ½ in. (16.5 cm.) wide

Lot Essay

Reputedly commissioned in celebration of the marriage of Archibald Stirling to the daughter of Sir John Maxwell Pollock, the dishes here from the Stirling service were previously on display at Keir House in Scotland. Keir House was the seat of the Stirlings from the 15th to 20th centuries.
