Lot Essay

These mini trunks, originally created as gifts for Louis Vuitton's VIP clients, are modelled after three classic Louis Vuitton trunks. The Miss France paperweight after the 'Lady's Trunk' trunk that belonged to Miss France 1927, Roberte Cusey, the hat box after the 'Lady's Hat Box' hat box that belonged to Mrs. William Twombley, of Paris 1895 and the courrier trunk an exact replica, one seventh the size, of an man's courrier trunk from 1888. The Aero snow globe, also a VIP gift, was inspired by a Pierre-Emilie Legrain ink drawing and pays homage to Louis Vuitton's 1906 Aero trunk which was designed to be attached to the gondola of a hot air balloon.
