Henry Young was a German-born schoolteacher in north-central Pennsylvania. To supplement his income, he produced birth and baptismal certificates, presentation pieces and miniature portraits. His output has been grouped into thirteen different motifs, most with an eight-point star in each upper corner. For a similar work attributed to Young, see Richard I. Barons, The Folk Tradition: Early Arts and Crafts of the Susquehanna Valley (New York, 1982), p. 71, no. 77.
