Anna Orlando has identified this tondo as the work of the Genoese painter, Luca Saltarello (written communication, September 2013). Saltarello trained in the workshop of Domenico Fiasello in Genoa, and left at a young age for Rome to study the antiquities of the Eternal City. Working from photographs, Orlando dates this painting to Saltarello's Roman period, around 1640.
