Lot Essay

Joseph Nathan Oliver (1881 – 1938) better known as 'King Oliver' was an American jazz cornet player and bandleader. In the 1910s and 1920s Oliver played and lead in brass and dance bands in New Orleans' red-light district - an area which came to be known as 'Storyville'.
