This bureau plat à espagnolettes is after the celebrated model attributed to Charles Cressent, acquired by the Mobilier National for the Palais Compiègne in 1863 and today at the Château de Versailles. It was shown at the exposition retrospective de l’Union centrale, Paris in 1882, which undoubtedly affirmed its popularity and encouraged ébénistes of the day to copy it.
