HEIAN PERIOD, 10TH CENTURY
The figure standing in slight contraposto carved in single-block technique (ichiboku-zukuri), dressed in a skirt with a scarf draped across the bare torso and falling in loops across the thighs, with folds of drapery emphasizing the volume of the legs, the hair gathered up into a high coiffure, the face recarved; arms and feet missing.
