Lot Essay

The present model and that of lot 1230 are based on Meissen models copying blanc-de-chine prototypes.  Mr. Ellsworth kept these two rare Vienna figures close at hand as comparison models-- they display his keen interest in Western interpretations of Chinese forms.  See R. Rückert, Meissener Porzellan, p. 162-3, figs. 833 and 840-1 for the related Meissen forms.
