Liu Xun was born in 1958 in Beijing. At one time he worked as a professional photographer in the Chinese Cultural Relics Research Institute. He began to study traditional painting in the 1980s and was for the most part self taught. Inspired by the creativity that can be gained by learning from the past, Liu Xun has focused on infusing new life into Chinese classical paintings.
