A Sèvres (later decorated) low comport
of shaped outline, painted to the centre with Venus borne ashore on a wave, accompanied by a nymph, a merman, a zephyr, a dolphin and a dove within a turquoise-ground border enriched with raised enamel red, white and green 'jewels' and gilt dentil rims, inscribed to the reverse Donn/ae par moi le Roy a Mme de Comballet, with interlaced L marks and incised marks -- 8½in. (21.5cm.) wide, the porcelain 18th century, the decoration later (slight fritting and wear, some 'jewels' slightly chipped)
