The colophon by He Haixia above the painting reads, "This painting is a masterwork produced during Shi Lu's later years. The painting is richly colored, with mature and free brushwork and the colors are beautiful. In particular, the brushstrokes are forceful and vigorous, but at the same time show a sense of flexibility. This painting demonstrates that Shi Lu reached a high level of achievement, and he was able to ideally balance the relationship between power and delicacy. This is a divine work. He Haixia, at the age of eighty, fifth month, wuchen year (1988)." To the right of the painting is a colophon by Xu Bangda that states that the painting in an authentic work by Shi Lu and compliments it as strange, powerful and good.
