Lot Essay

As part of a government cultural travel program for Chinese artists, Shi Lu visited India and Egypt in 1955-56. He painted many paintings during his trip, including this one. However, in the 1970s, Shi Lu added to these pictures symbols and characters, the frenzy and strangeness of which reveal his mental state at the time.
