The use of stucco and terracotta, which became more prevalent in the production of Gandharan sculpture during the 4th and 5th centuries, enabled the sculptor to render images with finely molded and expressive features. For a close comparable to the head of Buddha, bearing a similar hairline, incised eyebrows, heavy-lidded eyes and gentle lips with depressions in the corners, see I. Kurita, Gandharan Art II; the World of the Buddha, 2003, p.121, fig.329.
