Lot Essay

According to new research by the Maltese historian Alaine Apap Bologna, author of "The Silver of Malta ", the maker's mark on this lamp, previously attributed to Gioacchino Lebrun alone, was in fact shared with his younger brother Simeone and by the start of the Oakes period, Gioacchino who had died in 1810, was off the scene. Christies are indebted to Alaine for sharing her research with us.
