A RARE GREYISH-GREEN JADE PEAR-SHAPED EWER AND COVER
LATE MING DYNASTY, 16TH-17TH CENTURY
The ewer is finely carved on each side of the lower body with a peach-shaped panel enclosing a dragon and a chilong, in one panel the two dragons contest a flaming pearl. The spout issues from a monster mask at the bottom and is joined to the neck by a curved strut opposite the faceted handle which is surmounted by a small loop. The mouth rim and foot rim are encircled by a T-fret border, as is the rim of the cover below the small coiled chilong finial. The semi-translucent stone is finely polished.
