A WHITE JADE GILT-METAL-MOUNTED 'FOLDING FAN' BOX AND COVER
18TH CENTURY
The even white stone is carved to imitate the tapering outer sticks of a fan, which are hinged at one end with a gilt-metal mount terminating in a small loop for suspension. A matching, narrow, sliding, gilt-metal band secures the box and cover when closed.
The jade 3 5/8 in. (9.9 cm.) long

Compare to the walrus tusk box and cover of very similar shape and size, dated to the 18th century, sold at Sotheby’s Paris, 16 December 2010, lot 72.
