A WHITE JADE-INSET ZITAN RUYI SCEPTER
THE JADE MING DYNASTY (1368-1644), THE WOOD SCEPTER 19TH CENTURY
The zitan scepter is inset with three jade plaques well carved in openwork: the largest depicts a qilin standing between an overhanging pine tree and peony below the moon, the central plaque with a pair of egrets amidst lotus plants, and the smallest plaque depicts a qilin amidst flowers and foliage. The jade is of warm white tone with some pale russet areas.
