A THREE-COLOR OVERLAY GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE
1750-1850
The bottle is of rounded form with a recessed oval foot, and is carved through the translucent red, blue and opaque green overlays to a semi-translucent 'snowstorm' ground. One side is carved with a bat in flight above the moon setting behind breaking waves, and the reverse is carved with lotus.
2 3/8 in. (6 cm.) high, pink tourmaline stopper
Provenance
Reverend Isaac Taylor Headland Collection (1859-1942), and thence by descent within the family.
