A PAIR OF SMALL IRON-RED-DECORATED 'BAT' DISHES
TONGZHI SIX-CHARACTER MARKS IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD (1862-1874)
Each is decorated on the interior with five bats (wufu) forming a circle with their outstretched wings, below twelve bats in various attitudes of flight in the cavetto. The exterior is similarly decorated with eight bats, all within blue double line borders.
5 7/8 in. (15 cm.) diam.
