The bowl is finely enameled on the exterior with a continuous scene depicting an egret amidst the flowers and leaves of a lotus pond.

Lot Essay

The combination of a single egret and a lotus pond represents the auspicious rebus yilu lianke, (May you pass your exams all the way), A Daoguang-marked bowl of almost identical design was sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 8 April 2011, lot 3090.
