The censer is raised on three cabriole legs and is relief-decorated around the deep sides with an undulating, leafy scroll bearing four peony blossoms. The exterior is covered with a glaze of sea-green color that continues over the channeled mouth rim to partially cover the otherwise unglazed interior that has fired to a brick-red color, and also continues onto the underside to surround the central foot ring.
