Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, facing left, wearing a turban secured with a sarpech holding a long thin white feather and a diaphanous white tunic, her right hand slightly raised, her left at waist level, both resting on the jaroka frame, within wide floral frames, with black rules, framed and glazed

Lot Essay

The finely illuminated borders of this album page are identical to those on a portrait of the Mughal emperor Farukhsiyar formerly in the Collection of Francoise and Claude Bourelier which sold in Paris, Artcurial, 4 November 2014, lot 243. The two paintings must have been part of the same album originally.
