Opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, the painting arranged in three registers, the uppermost inhabited by eight deities including Surya and Vishnu, seating on a dais beneath a yellow canopy, the central register depicting Parvati, seated on her father's lap, holding Shiva's hand as he kneels on a red carpet besides Brahma, the lower register showing the newly-weds, accompanied by a retinue of ascetics, maidens and a musician standing close to a fire attended by two Brahmins holding ceremonial hands, receiving a symbolic gift, black and yellow rules, garnet-red margins, the reverse with stamp of Elijah Impey and two former catalogue entries
