Lot Essay

For similar, cf. L. M. Berman, Catalogue of Egyptian Art: The Cleveland Museum of Art, New York, 1999, pp. 263-4, no. 188: this example is called a tazza, with a flaring footed base which was made separately. Reliefs in the tomb of Rekhmira, vizier of Thutmose III, show tazze being used as vessels for dispensing ointments and unguents during banquets.
