A GREEK BRONZE SITULA
HELLENISTIC PERIOD, CIRCA LATE 4TH CENTURY B.C.
The body with convex sides, high rounded shoulders and tapering to a flat base, with flat inverted disc rim, twin arching bail handles terminating in bud-like finials, attached on one side by an appliqué in the form of a Silenus mask, with ram's horns and full curling beard and moustache, the other side with a lion's head, with curly fur and small rounded ears, the spout emerging from the open jaw
