an ornamental turning lathe, No. 1104, with iron bed on double mahogany stand with treadle gear, crank and flywheel, shepherd's crook overhead, traversing mandrel headstock with six screw-hobs and star-nut, brass pulley with six rows of divisions and index and segment apparatus, screw barrel tailstock, handrest base and four tees, boring collar, ellipse chuck and cam ring, eccentric chuck with ratchet nose, dome chuck, slide-rest with keys, various cup, screw and other work chucks and a slope-top mahogany chest with two drawers, containing 202 cutters and drills with drill spindle and accessories, vertical and eccentric cutting frames and a motor pulley -- 5in. centre height, 42in. wide, 84in. high

Lot Essay

Although No 1104 appears to have been made in the period 1815-20, which the Holtzapffel & Deyerlein name confirms, it seems not to have been sold until 1903, when it was bought by Sir D.G.A. Duckworth-King Bt., in whose family's possession it remained until 1935.
