With scalloped rim, the white ground finely decorated with two sprays of bluebells around a large composite flower, saz leaves and peony-like blossoms around, the reverse decorated with paired tulips and rosettes, marked TH. DECK

Lot Essay

This dish by Theodore Deck is a copy of an important Iznik dish, dated 1545-50, in the British Museum (Nurhan Atasoy and Julian Raby, Iznik, 1989, London, fig.241, pp.137-138). Another from the same series by the French ceramicist is exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum and dated 1865 (id. 226-1896).
