A JIAN TEA BOWL, A CIZHOU JAR, AND A DING-TYPE DISH
SONG DYNASTY OR LATER
The Jian bowl is covered overall with a lustrous black glazed finely streaked with russet 'hare's fur' markings, pooling in an irregular line above the foot exposing the body fired to a purplish-brown colour. The Cizhou jar is painted in brown on a white slip with stylised flowers separated by vertical spear-shaped lines and covered in a clear glaze. The Ding-type dish is carved with two fish swimming amongst swirling waves represented by light combing. It is covered overall with a glaze of ivory tone pooling in the recesses with the exception of the rim which reveals the fine white body.
Jian bowl: 5 in. (13 cm.) diam.; Cizhou jar: 7 1/2 in. (19 cm.) high (3); Ding-type dish: 4 3/4 in. (12 cm) diam. (3)
