Jean-Pierre Dusautoy, maître in 1779.
Inspired by the oeuvre of his contemporary, Roger Vandercruse, dit Lacroix (RVLC), Jean-Pierre Dusautoy is recorded as having worked for the tapissier Bonnemain, as well as for the marchand-ébéniste Nicolas Lannuier. He seems to have specialised in the production of small tables ambulantes and of this group, only a small selection of those with a white marble top and distinctive kidney-form stretcher have passed through the auction rooms. One pair sold from a private collection (Le Pavillon Chougny) at Christie's, London, 9-10 December 2004, lot 363 (£35,850), and were possibly those sold anonymously at Sotheby's, New York, 4 May 1989, lot 342 and at Ader Picard, Paris, 10 June 1966, lot 110.

Further related tables by Dusautoy include that supplied to Marie-Antoinette and recorded in the Prison du Temple, from whence it passed to Madame Vincent (sold at Ader Picard Tajan, Paris, 15 April 1989, lot 155, FF 480,000); another in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam; another in the Wrightsman Collection (F.J.B. Watson, The Wrightsman Collection, Fribourg, 1966, vol. I, pp. 276-7, no. 138); and another illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIe Siècle, Paris, 1989, p. 292. Further examples were sold anonymously at Christie's, London, 14 June 1990, lot 105 and 13 June 1991, lot 83, as well as at Sotheby's, Zurich, 10 December, 1997, lot 806 (SFR 103,100).
