Of squared tapering form with vert maurin marble tops, each painted with a continuous equestrian hunt scene including hounds and stags, the waisted top section and socle enriched with gilt hunting trophies and berried laurel, the conforming square plinth applied with a gaping mask of Hercules wearing the Nemean lion skin

The signature H. Desprez is found on a number of high quality large scale painted works in the Sèvres style, particularly on Napoleonic or equestrian views, in the late 19th century.
