Of rectangular form, the white ground painted in cobalt-blue, turquoise and deep bole-red with a cobalt-blue field with cintamani roundels in white, green and red divided by paired white tiger stripes, plain red band below and palmettes on turquoise ground above, minor areas of restoration on two corners, otherwise intact
4 7/8 x 9¾in. (12.4 x 24.8cm.)

Tiles of this series are identifiable in the decoration of the Topkapi Saray Palace, including in the Hirka-i Saadet and the library of Ahmed I. A small number of related cintamani border tiles have appeared on the art market. One of these was sold at Sotheby's, London, 13 April 2000, lot 111. Examples have also sold in these Rooms, 27 April 2004, lot 209 and more recently on 7 April 2011, lot 312 and 6 October 2011, lot 303. Ours is unusual however for the turquoise border with the trilobed cusping that runs along one edge. One other example that shares this feature, in a private Los Angeles collection, is published (Gerard Paquin, Cintamani, Hali, Vol. 64, August 1992, pp.111 and 146).
