Taisho Period (early 20th century), signed Sekka (Kamisaka Sekka; 1868-1942) (designed by Sekka, lacquer by Kamisaka Yukichi; 1886-1938)
The rectangular box decorated in reddish-brown, gold and black lacquer hiramaki-e, takamaki-e and inlaid lead and mother-of-pearl with a courtier seated in front of a bamboo basket, fitted with ink stone and a copper water dropper sealed Tsune (Koichi Tsunesaku), signature on underside of lid
9 5/8 x 8 3/8 in. (24.4 x 21.3 cm.)
With original wood box sealed Yukichi (Kamisaka Yukichi) on underside of lid
Lot Essay
Kamisaka Yukichi was Sekka's younger brother and produced many lacquers designed by Sekka.
