Meiji Period (late 19th century)
The rectangular frame with a tray form top with indented corners above two drawers, the lower section with stepped shelves above a narrow drawer and two long drawers, all decorated in gold, silver, red and black hiramakie and takamaki-e, hirame, togidashi-e and sparse nashiji, the tray with cranes, the drawers with cranes and a boat, the sides pierced with panels carved in high and low relief with a boat designed across all the panels with its anchor, ropes, cargo, the silver fittings engraved with scrolling foliage, the drawers with silver fittings modelled as birds and clouds, the base lacquered black, fitted wood box
