Lot Essay

The terracotta maquette of this group can be found in the catalogue raisonnee of Verbon's work. Correspondence exits between Churchill and Verbon (The Churchill Archive 24 June 1951- 10 Oct 1962), who became friends during the war in London. Two casts of a bronze bust of Churchill in his robes from the coronation was commissioned from Verbon by the City Hall of Rotterdam to be positioned there, the other presented to Churchill.
