With single-edged clip-point blade, silver guard and grip finely cast and chased in high relief with scrollwork inhabited by birds, an elephant and Hindu deities, the pommel formed as a large mythical bird's head with open beak, chain knuckle guard, and retaining traces of original gilding in sheltered areas, in original red textile covered wooden sheath with silver mounts decorated en suite with the hilt, and with blued sprung steel locking catch

Probably collected by John Stewart-Murray, 7th Duke of Atholl, during his World Tour in 1883 when he is known to have visited Ceylon.
