Lot Essay
The arms honour and commemorate the military activities of Colonel John Cameron (1771-1815), who commanded a battalion of the 92nd Regiment, later to be known as the Gordon Highlanders, but was killed at Quatre Bras on the march out of Brussels in the Waterloo Campaign of 1815. In recognition of his services Col. John Cameron’s father, Sir Ewen Cameron (d.1828), was created the 1st Baronet of Fassiefern, co. Argyll in 1817, with the title passing to his second son, Sir Duncan Cameron, 2nd Baronet of Fassiefern. The title was extinct by 1863. Please see www.christies.com for further information.
