A GEORGE II MAHOGANY SERPENTINE CHEST
ATTRIBUTED TO WILLIAM VILE AND JOHN COBB, CIRCA 1755-60, ADAPTED IN THE 19TH CENTURY
The crossbanded top with gadrooned edge, over four graduated drawers on C-scroll and rocaille-carved ogee bracket feet and recessed castors, the sides with berried laurel handles, with label inscribed in ink to the underside of the top 'Brass work No. 1', originally conceived with two serpentine doors in front of the drawers, the feet apparently original but re-positioned when the doors were removed
36 ½ in. (95 cm.) high; 55 ¼ in. (140.5 cm.) wide; 27 ½ in. (70 cm.) deep
