A FAMILLE ROSE 'PEACH AND BATS' DISH
QIANLONG SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
The dish is enamelled in the interior with leafy branches bearing eight peaches encircled by five iron-red bats in flight , and the exterior is decorated with three clusters of stylised hibiscus sprays.
6 7/8 in. (17.5 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

The present dish contains many auspicious wishes, with peaches for 'longevity' and five bats for 'the Five Happiness'. The number of eight peaches also utilises the auspicious number of eight for 'prosperity'.
