TWO THANGKAS DEPICTING SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA
TIBET, 18TH-19TH AND 20TH CENTURY
The first depicts Shakyamuni Buddha to the centre seated in dhyanasana with his hands held in bhumisparsha mudra, surrounded by smaller images of Buddhas holding various mudras. The second depicts Shakyamuni Buddha holding an alms bowl in his left hand, surrounded by arhats, with the Four Guardian Kings at the bottom.
The larger, 20 ¼ in. x 31 ½ in. (51.5 cm. x 79.5 cm.)
