A THANGKA DEPICTING MEDICINE BUDDHA
18TH-19TH CENTURY
Medicine Buddha is seated in dhyanasana upon a lotus base and holds an alms bowl in his left hand and the stem of a myrobalan fruit in his right. He is accompanied by seven Buddhas who are seated below him within the palace walls, making up the Eight Medicine Buddha Brothers. Green Tara is depicted above the palace to the centre, and the Twenty-one Taras surround the walls of the palace, each holding a vase in their outstretched hand.
