A FAMILLE ROSE FIGURE OF A SEATED LUOHAN
20TH CENTURY
The scholar is seated with his legs crossed upon a rock and his shoes resting below. He is reading a scroll and his facial features are rendered in fine detail. There is a four-character seal mark to the base reading Zeng Longxing zao which can be translated as 'made by Zeng Longxing'.

Lot Essay

An enamelled and painted figure of a Luohan with seals of Zeng Longshen (1901-1964) sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 6 April 2015, lot 237. Zeng Longsheng specialised in figural sculpture and was a renowned potter in Jingdezhen. The University Museum and Art Gallery, University of Hong Kong has a complete set of Eighteen Luohan by this artist.
