RALPH VAUGHAN WILLIAMS (1872-1958)
A one-page autograph letter of 21 lines, signed, from 10 Madingley Road, Cambridge, [n.d], to C.R. Perkins, thanking him for a letter and stating: "I see no reason why with practice you should not make your music a great pleasure to your self and to others. Though at your age it would be unwise to try and throw over everything for music ... I should practice a lot of sight reading and transposing -- also keep up your practice of reading music away from the piano and remember your reponsibility to the people to whom you play, have the best always -- it is our principle to be able to do that" (creased on folds). Together with an autograph note in pencil, signed, and part of the original stamped addressed envelope. (2)
