With Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, COSC Certification, second solid platinum case back, setting pin, large leather binder with outer packaging, literature, leather pouch, fitted wooden presentation box, outer packaging. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of this watch in 2005 in platinum with opaline dial, Breguet numerals and dot minute track in rose gold, and its subsequent sale on 7 December 2005.
Appearing for the first time on the market, and furthermore offered by its original owner and in like new condition, the present watch is an outstanding and probably unique example of the revered reference fifty-sixteen.
Before the launch of reference 5002 Sky and Moon Tourbillon, reference 5016 was the most complicated wristwatch available at Patek Philippe. Its dial layout and case design stylistically place it into the "old school" Patek Philippe production, and it is one of the very last examples of this iconic group, which includes masterpieces such as reference 2499 and 2497. Indeed, the case design of reference 5016 is a direct descendant of the case design of reference 2499, characterized by the unmistakable sculpted lugs.
Available from 1994 to 2010, it is known in the three gold colors and in platinum, and it originally mounts a black or white dial, with the numerals in tone with the case color. A meager couple hundred examples overall were produced, and the auction market has so far seen only around fifteen platinum examples.
The present example, however, does not fit into this canonic dial categorization: indeed, its dial sports pink gold Breguet numerals and hands, whereas it is cased in platinum. If one examines the Certificate of Origin, he or she will notice it reads reference 5016-021. The second part of the reference number (021, in this case) identifies the dial. Standard dials are usually marked 001, or 010. Special requests or later iterations are given specific codes. Consequently, the Certificate confirms what one can suspect from examining the piece: this dial is a special order one, which classifies this watch as a possibly unique piece.
Beyond the appeal of being a super-complicated special order Patek Philippe, it is necessary to underline the aesthetic impact of the timepiece.
