Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin date 28 June 2011, product literature, leather folder, fitted presentation box and outer packaging.

Fresh to the market, this reference 5396 is believed to be the only third example of this particular model to appear in public to date.

Produced in a limited edition of 150 pieces in platinum, this watch is Patek Philippe's homage to Islam. The first obvious trait in this regard is the sunburst engine-turned center disc in green, the color of Islam. Another more subtle reminder is the presence of the holy city of Mecca, in green as well, on the city ring. Finally, platinum was chosen for the case not only because of its status as, traditionally, the most exclusive choice for casing a watch, but also because of a hadith which, according to some interpretations, discourages the use of gold adornments.

Consigned in virtually as-new condition and with all of its accessories, the present watch is an exceedingly rare opportunity for the savvy Patek Philippe collector to own one of the rarest modern production Patek Philippe world time wristwatches.
