Lot Essay
With Tudor Garantie Internationale in the name of Loris Capirossi dated 28 November 2010, additional Nato strap, product literature, fitted presentation box and outer packaging. Furthermore delivered with Tudor Anthology by Alberto Isnardi.
This "Heritage" chronograph was originally the property of motorcycle champion Loris Capirossi. The case back suggests that it was a gift of gratitude, as it is engraved "quando I ringraziamenti non bastano" (Italian for "when thank you is not enough"), centred by his racing number 65 in the typical "racing" font.
For an image showing Loris Capirossi wearing a Tudor Heritage and illustrations of the model see Alberto Isnardi's Tudor Anthology, pp. 320-323.
Launched at the 2010 Baselworld, the Tudor Heritage Chrono is inspired by the famous Tudor Montecarlo chronograph model from the 1970s.
The 2010 edition replicates the original shape and proportions of its predecessors' case, bezel, lugs and bracelet, including the black, grey and orange fabric strap, however fitted with a newly designed vintage and seat belt inspired buckle. The first series was available with a black or grey dial (as the first "Montecarlo" models, see lot 139), the second with blue dial (as the model's second series, see lot 140).
Loris Capirossi
Born in Castel San Pietro Terme, Italy on 4 April 1973, he entered the world of motorcycle racing at the tender age of 4 with off-road bikes. His true vocation, however, was track races, and he disputed his first one in 1987, at 14, riding a Honda NS125.
After some experiences in the Italian and European cups, he entered the 1990 125cc world cup, racing for Honda with a RS125R. Incredibly, he won his first world cup, becoming the youngest world champion ever, at 17. Over the years he moved on to the 250cc class (world champion in 1998), 500cc, and eventually to the MOTO-GP.
In 2011 he participated in his last world championship, and since 2014 he works as a TV sport commentator.
