Cornelis Ploos van Amstel (1726-1798) (L. 3002-3004), with his inscription 'Jb. dwit. f/ hoog 15d/ breed 11¾ d' (on the mount); Philippe van der Schley, Amsterdam, 3 March 1800, possibly Album DD, lot 8 ('Een dito [Hoofd van Maria] met zwart, rood en wit Kryt, door denzelven [J. de Wit]').
The 1800 Ploos van Amstel sale included sixty-two lots of drawings by Jacob de Wit with a total of 150 sheets by the artist. Among these were at least three heads of the Virgin.
