Lot Essay

The name 'The Master of the Van Eeghen Drawing Book' was created by Erik Löffler in 2004 for a group of drawings which are in a private collection in The Netherlands. Since then some of the drawings have been given to Rombout Uylenburgh (1580/85-1628) and Lambert Jacobsz. (1598/99-1636). The present drawing is very close in technique, especially in the rendering of the trees, to a landscape drawing also given to the Master of the Van Eeghen Drawing Book in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam (inv. 58) and to a drawing which was at Christie's, Amsterdam, 5 November 2003, lot 126.

We are grateful to Erik Löffler, who has confirmed the attribution to The Master of the Van Eeghen Drawing Book on the basis of a digital photograph.
